Rep. Wheeler offers Fox Valley Summer Reading Club

NORTH AURORA – State Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) announced the official launch of his Fox Valley Summer Reading Club for students in first through fifth grades. The program is offered to encourage reading among local youth and promote the lifelong benefits of literacy. Free brochures are available for download on Rep. Wheeler’s website by clicking HERE or by calling Rep. Wheeler’s District Office at (630) 345-3464.

Students are challenged to read eight books over their summer break. Books from local library programs are accepted; and books of 150 pages or more count as two. After a student completes his/her reading list, they must have a parent or guardian certify the reading was accomplished and return the signed form on the brochure to Rep. Wheeler’s office by the deadline of Monday, August 3.

Students who successfully complete the reading challenge will be invited with family members to a free recognition party in early autumn, where Rep. Wheeler will present summer readers with an official certificate from the State of Illinois celebrating their achievement. Refreshments will also be provided.

“As a father, I encourage reading in our home and support my kids’ reading assignments in the classroom,” Rep. Wheeler said. “Our Fox Valley Summer Reading Club is a way to support the efforts of parents and our local libraries by promoting reading among grade school students in Kane and Kendall Counties year-round.”

Participating students must reside in Illinois’ 50th Representative District, which includes the Kane and Kendall County communities of Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, Campton Hills, Elburn, Montgomery, Oswego, Plano, St. Charles, Sugar Grove and Yorkville. For questions or to find out whether you live in Rep. Wheeler’s district, please call the District Office at (630) 345-3464.
